Coming off the heels of “Forlorn,”  his first single of the year, HIGHBREED is back with an emotive two-pack single. Although he only just started building his public catalogue, the few singles he’s already shared including the 2023 “CASAMIGOS” and his latest single,  “Cyanide/Damage,” all have a soothing, aurally-pleasing feel to them that makes one want to leave his voice on loop. 

One distinct trait that’s consistent about him is how he leans into the dark side of the human emotions in his curated social profile, almost always appearing  in black and white filters,  adding a touch of mystery to his personality. That mystery also reflects in his sound. On “Cyanide/Damage,” he explores the  yearning feeling of unrequited love, knowing the situation no longer benefits him but he still feels completely stuck in love with his muse. His voice reflects the weight of both his affection and heartbreak.  

“Cyanide” specifically underpins HIGHBREED’s production prowess. Self-produced by him,  with additional production credits from Eskay Yilchie, they opt for lucid melodies to shape his delivery and it lands perfectly. “Damage” on the other hand is equally soulful, but was enhanced using more guitar and gospel-influenced organs as major elements of RyFy and Eskay Yilchie’s production. 

Fusing Alternative R&B references with Neo-soul “Cyanide/Damage” is solid proof of HIGHBREED’s ability to make luscious music that broadens the range of music that can come out of this region, especially because he’s reimagining the soundscape from Ebonyi.
