King Promise’s “Melody” Is The Start Of A New Era

Sitting right at the intersection of Highlife, R&B and mid-tempo Afropop, “Melody” stays straightforward and zeroes in on pure attraction.

Ever since “Terminator” took over worldwide, Ghanaian artist King Promise has kept his foot on the gas, dropping constant heat while linking up with major names across music and football. Fresh off his joint tape ‘See What We’ve Done’ and a recent campaign with Chelsea FC, he is turning his focus back to his solo run with “Melody”, the first taste of his upcoming 2027 album.

Out today alongside its official music video, the record hits the exact sweet spot his fans expect. Sitting right at the intersection of Highlife, R&B and mid-tempo Afropop, “Melody” stays straightforward and zeroes in on pure attraction. The main hook draws a direct line between a woman’s presence and a song stuck on repeat in your head.

Following the release of ‘As Promised’ in 2019, King Promise has built a catalogue that moves between Ghanaian Pop and a wider Afropop audience. ‘5 Star’ (2022) and ‘True to Self’ (2024) expanded that run, while “Terminator” became his biggest international hit. His public profile has also taken him beyond music. This month, he worked with Chelsea FC on “Can’t Tame Us”, the club’s official anthem for its London to the World campaign. The accompanying football tournament in Accra brought the campaign to Nungua, where King Promise grew up playing the game and spotlighted his Rent Paid initiative, which connects young people in his community with the sport.

“Melody” comes with King Promise working within a sound he knows well. Whether it signals a new direction for the forthcoming album remains to be heard; for now, the single keeps his attention on the pleasures of a well-made love song.
