Cruel Santino Helms A Gritty Three-Way Affair On “Big Drop”

Featuring Zaylevelten and OctobersRich, the track brings ‘K.O.T.B – The Bomberman Chronicles’ closer.

Cruel Santino’s latest era is gathering momentum. Four years after his last album, the alte pioneer began laying the groundwork for a new era two months ago with the release of the two-pack ‘International Collector / Oz,’ both accompanied by self-directed, cinematic visuals. Now, he takes things further with “Big Drop,” his latest single and arguably the most exciting development in this new era yet.

The release follows the announcement of his third studio album ‘K.O.T.B – The Bomberman Chronicles,’ slated for November 6, and a recent listening party where he previewed “Big Drop” to an enthusiastic New York crowd.

Featuring Zaylevelten and OctobersRich, whom Santi describes as the song’s guest star, “Big Drop” is as heavy as advertised. Backed by a catchy synth loop that sounds like it was plucked straight out of a video game and syncopated drums courtesy of Odunsi The Engine and Genio Bambino, the new track is a gritty three-way affair that channels the unbridled energy of some of his most visceral cuts.

One of Santi’s enduring superpowers has been bringing out the best in his collaborators. Think posse cuts like “Icy” and “OWN GAME,” where he coaxes standout performances from his guests without surrendering the spotlight. He strikes a similar balance here, trading smooth, assured flows with Zaylevelten while making room for OctobersRich’s heavily-inflected, stream-of-consciousness delivery to cut in at intervals, adding an unpredictable edge to the song’s already abrasive sound.

A late beat switch pushes the song into even more frenetic territory, bringing its restless energy to a fitting climax. If ‘International Collector / Oz’ reintroduced the reclusive star and signalled the start of a new era, “Big Drop” offers the most compelling glimpse yet into what that era might hold. It’s Santi at his most unrestrained, revving up anticipation for the next chapter in one of the country’s most storied careers.
