As part of my online concert series I accidentally came upon the idea for this cover song and with the idea came the perfect voice I knew would pull it off. @sizzybenjamin's voice is unique and fascinating in a way that I am undeniably drawn to. Some of my favorite artists over the years like Bob Marley, Majek Fashek, Sade Adu; became stamped indelibly in time and in our memories because of the uniqueness of their voices. Most of the artists I've introduced or worked with like Bez, Asa, Banky W, Omawumi, to mention a few; also have that unique quality to their voice that makes them stand out. @sizzybenjamin is another such incredible find. He dares to carry his own sound which I find to be admirable especially in these times, so I'd like to introduce and share him with the world. He's presently unsigned so if you have money and you're not going to ruin his life, please feel free to come sign him and be part of the greatness unfolding that I think is him. You'll hear me play a few electronic piano solos – that's my only feature in the song so let me know what you think about them. But really pay attention to Benjamin and how an otherwise pop song can be delivered in a different genre and in a manner so fluent as to almost suggest that to be the way the song was meant to be. Please encourage @sizzybenjamin and lend your support to this genre of music as that's the only way both can grow and receive the recognition they deserve. Everything on this record was live. Special thanks to my incredible band Godsent on drums, @iamnsikak on guitar @isobass1 on bass, @emem.alfred, @fomesings1 and @misscookey on background vocals. Cobhams Asuquo’s “Mad Over You” cover strips away the memorable highlife guitar riffs, but the electric guitar licks more than make up for it. Sizzy Benjamin performs the live set, complete with drums, tambourine rattles, percussion and backup singers. His somber take on Runtown’s lyrics are more affecting as he drags vowels and places emphasis on particularly affectionate lines; “I Dey Mad Over You You You You You”. Though it’s more a emotional than a dancehall number, you can still get your groove on to the funk baseline.
