With a title like “Wasted”, you’re inclined to instantly file Shizzi and Ceeza Milli’s new single into an Afropop party playlist. The catchy beat Shizzi produces, laying bouncy drum riffs over a sultry mix of guitar harmonies, percussion, synths and a familiar flute sample sets the party mood as he masterfully uses horns and DJ scratch effects to conjure club scenes. But while Ceeza Milli’s vocals also emphasize the partying plot of the song —“Can’t You See I’m Wasted? All of My Guys Don Mesebu”— his introspective lyrics expand the narrative to include some cocky brags that are striking enough to be inspirational for hustlers.
