DAP The Contract Is Celebrating Fuji’s Richness On “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)”

Per DAP The Contract,  “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)” is a celebration of the cultural richness of Nigerian Fuji music and Yoruba culture.

DAP The Contract has kept busy throughout the year. The veteran rapper returns with a new single, “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left),” his first solo release of 2026. It follows “House Of Blue,” a collab featuring Bymaddz and ‘Group Project,’ the debut project from Hi-Lo Jack, a trio comprising DAP The Contract, Clyde Lawrence, co-leader of the eight-piece Soul-Pop band Lawrence, and Cody Fitzgerald, frontman of indie folk ensemble Stolen Jars.

Per DAP The Contract,  “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)” is a celebration of the cultural richness of Nigerian Fuji music and Yoruba culture. “We all know the classic shuffle songs, such as the ‘Cha Cha Slide,’ ‘Electric Slide,’ or ‘The Wobble, ‘Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)’ is Fuji’s own shuffle record,” he explained in a press release. “‘Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)’ captures the nostalgia of 1970s Lagos functions, the original never-ending party where everybody is on the dance floor.”

Self-produced by the rapper, with additional instrumentation from award-winning composers Peter Enriquez and Syl DuBenion, “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left)” is a buoyant, feel-good record built for the dancefloor. It’s peppered with Yoruba vocal flourishes, Highlife horns, and thumping percussion, blending the infectious energy of Fuji with the familiar appeal of a classic shuffle record.

DAP The Contract’s last body of work, ‘Everybody Falls in The Summer (5yr),’  a revised version of a 2018 release of the same name, came in 2024. Since then, he’s been more focused on the Hi-Lo Jack, contributing to the trio’s collaborative output. With “Fuji Shuffle (To The Left),” he’s shifting attention back to his solo work, bringing Nigerian musical heritage to the forefront with a record that invites listeners to celebrate and dance.
