Koker’s first single for the year, “E Dey Your Body” comes with a romantic music video

Embellished with elements reminiscent of wedding dance numbers

Afropop’s top hit makers recognize that one of the quickest ways to score a radio hit is to create a wedding soundtrack. Just ask Wizkid, Davido or Sunny Nneji, there’s something about celebrating love backed by live band music that Nigerians simply can’t resist partying too. From the gospel inspired “Haaaa Halle-lujah” riff, Yinka Ayefele-esque Yoruba ad-libs and the instrumentals Blaq Jerzee produces with horns, percussion, and drums, “E Dey Your Body” plays right into wedding tropes even before Koker’s pseudo-romantic lyrics. The video however focuses more on the romance as Adasa Cookey directs showing Koker playing music to entertain his lover through the days of the week. While it’s a bit of a nuisance for his love interest, she doesn’t seem to mind much and eventually replicates the romantic gesture at the end of the video.
